Getting to the Isle of Skye
There are several modes of transport to the Isle of Skye and all
the routes offer breathtaking scenery with the option to stop off
on the way for accommodation, refreshments and sightseeing
By Car
From the West Cost of Scotland you can approach the island by bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh or by ferry. The ferry from Mallaig to
Armdale offers a sense of travelling overseas as you leave the mainland
behind and cross to Skye. It operates all
year with a limited service during winter months. Alternatively the
ferry from Glenelg to Kylerhea is locally owned and run is sure to
be an experience never to be forgotten!

stay eat on the way and stay overnight.
Approximate travelling times:
· London to Skye - 13 hours
· Exeter to Skye - 14 hours
· Birmingham to Skye - 10 hours
· Glasgow or Edinburgh to Skye - 5/6 hours
By Bus/Rail
National Express offer
a regular service from most major towns and cities to both Glasgow
and Edinburgh where you can change and pick up the Scottlish
Citylink that will take you the remainder of the journey.
You can take the sleeper from Euston London to Fort William then
change for Mallaig and the ferry to Armadale or the sleeper to Inverness
for the bus to Portree or the train to the Kyle of Lochalsh. ScotRail provides
rail services throughout Scotland and the UK.
Buses, coaches and trains also go via Edinburugh and/or Glasgow.
By Air
The nearest airport is Inverness, which is approximately three
hours away from Lorgill. Some of the budget airlines that operate
from the UK include: flybe,
Flybmi, Eastern
Airways, Ryanair and Easyjet,
or visit the Inverness Airport website for an overview. Alternatively
fly into Glasgow or Edinburgh and
then hire a car or take a coach/train.
Car
Hire can be booked for collection on arrival at all airports. Jans of
Portree has teamed up with United Rental Group to provide Skye
with an excellent range of car, van and minibus hire.
